This is a solid cast iron 4 O’Clock stove, the forerunners of much larger parlor stoves. Traditionally they were fired up in that late afternoon and would run until 7 or 8 o’clock. So they were very common in libraries, studies, bed chambers, etc. and exemplary of the federal style of the victorian era. These stoves have some of the most beautiful castings from the entire period. There is a removable cook lid on top, two doors that open up to view the fire and a screen that can also be removed. This stove was made by Green & Warren in Troy, NY.
